Tony is thoroughbred, who is the grandson of the famous race horse secretariat. When Tony raced he won over $100,000 on the track.
When he retired he began to jump almost 4 ft and then became ill with EPM.
He came to came to us from a loving owner who could not afford his treatment. The infection causes horses not to know where their feet are. His owner was going to have to put him down due to the cost of his treatment.
The first month alone cost us $2,000 in medical bills, but he made a full recovery. EPM stays in their system forever and horses can relapse.
Tony relapsed last fall 3 years after his first incident, he again recovered.
Tony may be the tallest horse at the Ranch, but he thinks he's the size of a toy poodle. He LOVES being part of the lesson program and is so soft, quiet and moves at such a gentle pace for our students.
